The Discontented was primarily inspired by Virginia Nicholson's study of those who rebelled against Victorian lifestyles and values in early 20th-century London, Among the Bohemians: Experiments in Living (c. 2004).
Real-life experiences seeped into a few lyrics as the album evolved, but much of the imagery protrayed derives from the semi-infamous characters depicted by Ms. Nicholson. Check out an interview with this author here on BBC radio 4.
This music is slowly but surely being produced (as it has been since late 2005); it is easily my most carefully constructed effort to date.
