dwindling is a mixture of pieces started at Djerassi, all fairly ambient. "dwindling," the opening piece, floats quietly; "tree/sigh" was an installation that played in the redwood forest during Djerassi's Annual Open House at the end of June 2003.  Some recordings from BBC's library were used to create a specific mood in "The Metaphor."

See below for samples of "dwindling" and "tree/sigh" ... there are also photos from the "tree/sigh" installation.

"tree/sigh" was originally scored by hand (the old-fashioned way!) as a minimalist piece, using snippets of music that would layer nicely in any order -- more accurately it's generative music. The first two photos below illustrate what I was doing during the composition process, tacking the snippets onto an old redwood board I had found in the tool shed. After I was sure things would sync together, each snippet was recorded onto 12 tracks on 6 CD players which were then hidden in one of the redwood canyons at Djerassi. The piece lasted about 8 hours. The third photo below is the trail leading into the installation on the morning of June 29, 2003.
