dwindling is a mixture of pieces started at Djerassi, all fairly ambient. dwindling, the opening piece, floats quietly; tree/sigh was an installation that played in the redwood forest during Djerassi's Annual Open House at the end of June 2003.

           the metaphor

"tree/sigh" was originally scored by hand (the old-fashioned way!) as a minimalist piece, using snippets of music that would layer nicely in any order -- more accurately it's generative music. The first two photos below illustrate what I was doing during the composition process, tacking the snippets onto an old redwood board I had found in the tool shed. After I was sure things would sync together, each snippet was recorded onto 12 tracks on 6 CD players which were then hidden in one of the redwood canyons at Djerassi. The piece lasted about 8 hours. The third photo below is the trail leading into the installation on the morning of June 29, 2003.
